Forsaken is a short documentary created by a team of international students to raise awareness on the issue of Hong Kong’s elderly living in poverty. Significantly, it touches on a subject that not many know about–cage homes, a form of government housing that resembles human chicken coops. With the assistance of social workers, the team, which consisted of: Writer/Director Ariel Lee, Cinematographer Benjamin Kan, Editor Jennifer Yeung, Sharon Lee and Jessica Lau, managed to expose the loneliness and desperation that many of these senior citizens harbor.
The film went on to win the National Geographic Think Again Awards in 2008.
